![]() ![]() I say all of this to ultimately opine that this is the most hyped Hornets team going into the season since the purple and teal returned to Charlotte. In fact the only time I remember people projecting us as a higher seed was the season we got Dwight, which obviously didn’t come to fruition. Nobody thought we would do much better than the eighth seed going into that season, which is pretty much the annual expectation for a Hornets team. We struggled against top teams as we always kind of have in the modern Hornets era and we weren’t great closing out close games. Had it not been for this trade, we would have continued to be the Hornets everyone knows and loves.īarring the great play after the trade deadline, there would have been nothing special about that team. He excelled as a 3 and D guy and was wonderful within his role. It sounds strange to say now, but that changed everything. The reason we ultimately had a fantastic second half of the season and catapulted into the playoff picture was the mid-season trade for Courtney Lee. Nobody saw that trade as moving the needle as much as it ultimately did. However, it was not proven or expected that he could thrive in more than a fourth man role. He also saw a bigger role than he had ever had in Portland and played really well within it. That was also Batum’s first year with us and he was as good as anyone could have hoped. He wasn’t super efficient, but he provided some much-needed scoring from the wing and is definitely part of the reason we were as good as we were. He’d never had anywhere near the role he had with us and, like Lin, he exceeded expectations. That was Jeremy Lamb’s first season with the Hornets and we didn’t really know what we had in him. The Hornets during the first half of the season looked very Hornets-y and were more in line with expectations for that season. Clifford was impressed by his defensive showing and he played a big role as a result. He looked impressive during those games (including in a win over the Cavs), but we were without what was then considered a major piece that season.Īs a result of the MKG injury, PJ Hairston (remember that guy?) started a ton of games during the first half of the season. That was possibly the most preseason hype for a leap from MKG in his career, but IIRC he was hurt during the preseason and played seven games or so in the middle of the season before being hurt again. He was a bonafide 6MOTY candidate that year and earned himself a 4 year/$48 million contract with the Nets because of it. Jeremy Lin was a stud for us, but the fact that he was signed for $2 million tells you how low the expectations for him were. Some folks around here are saying that was a hyped up roster prior to the season starting, but nobody thought the Hornets would be as good as they were that year. I wanted to give my take on that, since I think it’s relevant to the discussion of expectations going into a season. However, lately I’ve been seeing some revisionist history on the sub concerning that season. #Charlotte hornets roster 2015 series#This was clearly the best season we’ve had recently, with the Bugs tying for the third best record in the Eastern Conference and nearly making it to a second round series against the Raptors (who we played really well against at that time). ![]()
